چکیده

Abstract Carbamazepine (CBZ) is one of the oldest antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) that still used for treatment tonic-clonic seizures in children. Long-term use AEDs induces potential toxic effects may remain undetermined a long time. Earlier studies have revealed wide spectrum hematological toxicities associated with CBZ. This study was conducted to unveil carbamazepine as an monotherapy on and immunological parameters group Egyptian pediatric patients using it different durations. Fifty epileptics either sex were enrolled; 38 taking CBZ ≥ 6 months 12 newly diagnosed untreated patients. Usefulness of Serum NT-proBNP in Diagnosis of Generalized Seizures in Egyptian Children

Background Seizures may occur in as many as 1% of children. The most urgent type of seizures is generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS). N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide (NT‐proBNP) has been considered as a promising biomarker in numerous acute illnesses. We aimed to evaluate usefulness of NT‐proBNP for diagnosis of g...

Automatisms in absence seizures in children with idiopathic generalized epilepsy.

BACKGROUND Automatisms are well recognized to occur in complex partial seizures; however, their occurrence in generalized epilepsies is not always appreciated. There has been considerable debate regarding the nature, triggers, and timing of automatisms in absence seizures. OBJECTIVES To examine the frequency and nature of automatisms in new-onset absence seizures and assess the influence of t...

Carbamazepine treatment of generalized tonic–clonic seizures in idiopathic generalized epilepsy

PURPOSE Evaluate the efficacy of carbamazepine in the treatment of idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE). METHOD The response of five patients with IGE, who experienced primarily generalized tonic-clonic seizures which were refractory to multiple antiepileptic drugs, is reported. RESULTS Carbamazepine controlled multiple seizure types and did not induce or increase the frequency of myocloni...

Early reports of aplastic anemia in elderly patients treated with this drug led to concern about its potential hematological toxicity. A variety of other hematological abnormalities have also been described in association with CBZ therapy, inclu...
